Pope Francis’ message is one that he also lives daily by eschewing fancy digs, fancy wheels and the excesses of wealth. He talks it — and he walks it. But it would be wrong to assign a political philosophy to his profound demonstration of faith.
The newest media push is polyamorous relationships, which I’ve now witnessed being depicted on several specials and news reports as a reasonable alternative to traditional marriage. Many find it difficult to understand us “Neanderthals” who bristle at the thought of constantly having to accept new lifestyles. ABC news, for example, asks us to “have an open mind” and consider whether “they have a point.”
The “knock-out game” is anything but a game. And from what we’ve seen so far, it may be a wave of hate crimes. We have to stamp out these acts of pure cowardice, and police need to focus not just on the attackers, but on the videographers as well.
I’ve always believed that George Zimmerman and OJ Simpson had much in common, but it became crystal clear this week when I heard his girlfriend tell 911 operators that “he knows how to do it, he knows how to play the game.”
Why is Andy Lopez dead? One look at him reminds me how he could be my son, or yours. He could be any kid in America — and he should be alive. Andy Lopez is a victim of our own exaggerated media-driven fears to which even grown men and women in uniform have succumbed.

Do I still believe it? Absolutely. But when it comes to marijuana, I now believe […]
It becomes an inevitable part of every man’s life, sharing who he really is — even if it hurts, shames or embarrasses. So it was with novelist Oscar Hijuelos, who received the 1990 Pulitzer Prize for literature after writing “The Mambo Kings Play Songs of Love.” It was adapted into the 1992 film “El Mambo,” […]
President Kennedy’s failed Bay of Pigs invasion turned Fidel Castro into a “Rasputin-like” mystical figure. To this day, photos in Cuban text books depict Castro on the beaches of “Bahía de Cochinos” (…) amid bombs exploding around him.
Americans are having less sex — reproductive, baby-making sex — than they ever have before. Last week, TIME Magazine had a cover story entitled, “The Childfree Life.” The gist of the article was that increasingly, in our modern era, “having it all means not having children.” The choice to not have children represents a shift […]
As President Obama chooses the acquittal of George Zimmerman to reaffirm his black heritage, we should remind him that he should be there for all of us.
